It’s not Christmas, but it’s time to give

YWCA Pathways for Women shelter in Lynn­wood is looking for sets of dishes, silverware, pots and pans, bedding, towels and food for families moving into the shelter and to give to the families who are moving into their own places.

They don’t need clothing.

If your group wants to sponsor a project or drive to obtain these items, contact Luanne Kunz, community affairs coordinator for YWCA of Snohomish County, at 425-258-2766, ext. 150, or lkunz@ywcaworks.org.

Another food bank issues a plea

The Sky Valley Food Bank is still in need of cash and goods for the needy.

Hands of Hope Food Bank in Everett is in the same boat. The number of people needing food is up, but donations are down.

Bring nonperishable or fresh food donations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays to Everett Free Methodist Church, 9506 Seventh Ave. SE, Everett. Send cash donations to Hands of Hope Food Bank, 9506 Seventh Ave. SE, Everett, WA 98208.

Growing herbs in the Northwest

Herb enthusiast Annie Lyman will speak at 6 p.m. Thursday at J Matheson Kitchen &Gourmet, 2609 Colby Ave., Everett.

Relatively inexpensive and low-­maintenance herbs can be grown in any garden, Lyman said. During “Growing Herbs in the Pacific Northwest,” Learn about choosing which herbs to grow for our climate and your tastes, harvesting herbs, and other helpful tips.

The class is $20. Pre-register by calling 425-258-4589.
