PREP SOFTBALL: E-W stays alive with win over Shorewood

SHORELINE — Sydney Mahan’s efforts on the mound and at the plate helped keep the Edmonds-Woodway softball team mathematically alive in their quest for a 4A District 1 tourney berth on Friday.
Mahan, who was perfect through five innings, got the win as she scattered four hits in a complete-game effort and was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored to lead the Warriors to the 3-2 victory over Shorewood.
Edmonds-Woodway’s victory prevented both Kamiak — who lost 4-3 to Jackson on Friday — and Shorewood from clinching 4A District 1 tournament berths.
“(Edmonds-Woodway) played errorless ball behind her,” said Shorewood coach Tom Rizzuto. “They took away several base hits and we kicked the ball around (defensively).”
