Flower power needed in downtown Everett
A downtown flower planting event is 8 to 9:30 a.m. Friday in downtown Everett.
The annual event sponsored by the city parks and recreation department gives residents a chance to help beautify downtown by planting flowers along Hewitt and Colby avenues.
Volunteers check in at Cascade Savings Bank at the intersection of Hewitt and Colby avenues.
Gardening gloves and trowels will be provided, as well as coffee and refreshments.

Silver Lake Water District aces audit
Silver Lake Water and Sewer District passed accountability audits performed by State Auditor Brian Sonntag’s office.
The areas examined looked at selected financial transactions from Jan. 1, 2005, to Dec. 31, 2006.
The audit found that the district complied with state laws and regulations, as well as its own policies.
The water district provides water services to about 15,400 customers and sewer services to about 14,000 customers in south Snohomish County. It is led by three elected commissioners and a general manager. It has operating revenues of $11.8 million in 2006.
Hibulb Powwow coming to EvCC May 17
The annual Hibulb Powwow is May 17 at Everett Community College. The powwow, named for the American Indian village that once stood near where the college is located, will feature a dancing competition, with grand entries at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Booths selling Indian-themed goods will be at the powwow.
The event is free and open to the public. It will be held at the college’s Fitness and Sports Center at 1803 13th St. in Everett.

Center serves free lunch for seniors
The Lake Stevens Senior Center offers a free lunch for seniors every Friday.
The lunch is 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every week at the center, 1808 Main St.

Smokey Point plan is public hearing topic
The public is scheduled to have a chance to comment tonight on a long-term plan to guide development in the Smokey Point area.

Mill Creek
Volunteer sought for planning commission
A volunteer is needed to fill a mid-term vacancy on the Mill Creek Planning Commission.
The planning commission prepares for long-term growth, conducts public hearings and makes decisions on land use matters in the city of Mill Creek. The commission also acts as an advisory board for the City Council.
The position expires April 30, 2010. Commission meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.
The deadline for applying to the seat is May 16.

Snohomish
Public hearing on graffiti ordinance
The public is invited to comment tonight on a proposed ordinance aimed at curbing graffiti in the city.
The meeting of the Snohomish City Council is 7 p.m. in the George Gilbertson Boardroom, 1601 Ave. D.
The law would require graffiti to be removed within 48 hours of receiving a notice from the city and allows for a fine of $25 for each day the graffiti is not removed.

Free small business workshops May 16
Interested in small business loans or alternative financing? A free workshops offered through the city of Sultan is for you.
Mayor Carolyn Eslick, who has more than 30 years of business experience, will facilitate the workshops. Guest speakers will discuss a variety of topics of interest to small business owners and those thinking about starting a small business.
The workshop will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. May 16 in the Sultan Visitor Information Center at 320 Main St. in Sultan.
