Marysville-Pilchuck can secure district playoff spot with victory today

ARLINGTON — Marysville-Pilchuck did its part to inch closer to clinching a 4A District 1 playoff berth Tuesday night.

Riley Fritz pitched a complete game and struck out six batters and Marysville-Pilchuck defeated host Arlington 4-1 to take a Wesco North victory.

“They’re pitching is great and they can really hit the ball,” Arlington head coach Daniel Eng said.

Kristina Sheriff and Anna West each hit a double for M-P, which scored three runs and had four hits in the first inning.

Ally Milless scored for Arlington in the second inning to pull the Eagles within two, but M-P scored again in the fifth and only committed one error the entire game.

Thanks to Lake Stevens sweeping Snohomish in a doubleheader, M-P will have to defeat Oak Harbor today at home to a guarantee themselves a district playoff spot. The Tomahawks will also get in if Lake Stevens loses its game today against Everett.

Senior pitcher Kate Nicely started for Arlington on Senior Night.

“(M-P) got off to a slow start this year,” Eng said. “If you look at their record, they’ve had a lot of close games. If they make it they’re going to be a team to reckon with.”
