Boeing 747 freighter breaks in two

A Boeing Co. 747 cargo jet crashed this morning while trying to take off from Brussels airport, according to this Associated Press report.

The 747 “split in two,’ the mayor of a nearby town told VRT radio. The cargo jet was not on fire, but firefighters coated the jet’s wings’ in fire retardant as a precaution. Four out of five crew members on board were slightly injured in the crash.

The 747 freighter is owned by Kalitta Air, which is based in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
