Shannon Abitbol and Jerry Johnson have joined the United Way of Snohomish County as executive assistant and donor relations manager, respectively. Previously, Abitbol served as United Way’s campaign executive for 2007. Johnson’s 30-year United Way involvement spans five states and 29 campaigns. He has been with United Way of Snohomish County four years after a career in banking and property management.
Dean Johnson of Dean’s Professional Photography in Everett was honored with the Professional Photographers of America national award for outstanding service to professional photography. This is the highest award presented to a professional photographer and marks the awards’s 50th anniversary for the bronze and walnut plaque. The award was presented by the Professional Photographers of Washington at the organization’s annual conference in April.
Jennifer Chu of Moss Adams has passed her CPA examination. Chu joined Moss Adams in August and is a recent graduate from Central Washington University, where she obtained her Masters degree in accounting.
Dan Olson has joined Whitfield’s Insurance in Everett as a commercial insurance producer. Olson previously spent 12 years in the document management industry, and recently completed the Safeco Commercial Development Program.
Richard Martin has been appointed to the board of directors SonoSite, Inc. in Bothell. Martin served as president of Medtronic Physio Control Corp. until his retirement in 2001. Prior to its acquisition by Medtronic in 1998, Martin was chairman and CEO of Physio Control Corp.
Honors
The Everett Clinic Foundation is the recipient of the 2008 National Operation School Bell Award given by the Assistance League. The foundation was honored for continuous financial support to Everett’s Operation School Bell program, which provides clothing, shoes and hygiene kits to school children in need. To date, the foundation has provided clothing for more than 4,000 low-income students in Snohomish County. The foundation has contributed more than $2.6 million to more than 95 nonprofit organizations throughout Snohomish County since its inception in 1994.
Everett multimedia firm Tall Taurus Media is a recipient of the Excellence 2008 Communicator Award for its SportsArt Fitness E825 Elliptical promotional video. The award was presented by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, the largest awards program honoring the creative excellence for communications professionals. More than 9,000 entries were submitted for this year’s awards. Tall Taurus has been producing video campaigns for the exercise-equipment manufacturers since 2006.
Seminars, workshops
The Everett office of the Washington State Department of Revenue hosts a free workshop for new and small-business owners on from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. June 11 at the Everett Public Library, 2707 Hoyt Ave., verett. Participants will learn about Washington excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, tax incentives, sales tax collection and record-keeping requirements. All receive a workbook and a reference guide to rules and regulations. To register, go to www.dor.wa.gov or call 425-356-4800. Space is limited. Good deeds
Pignataro Volkswagen of Everett will be team up with the Salvation Army of Everett and Snohomish County for the second consecutive year for their annual Car Dealers Caring for Children campaign. Pignataro will make a donation to the organization’s school-supply program for every vehicle sold in June. The school-supply program targets low-income families who might otherwise have to start the school year without the necessary academic items.
