DARRINGTON — A man who reportedly drove an all-terrain vehicle into the Stillaguamish River late Friday was found safe.

When deputies found the man, he told them he was never in any danger and that his ATV had broken down on a sandbar along the riverbank, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

A witness told police the man drove into the river about 10:15 p.m. Friday in the area of Segelson Round Mount Road and Swede Heaven Road, about six miles west of Darrington.

After deploying a Hovercraft to search the river, rescue teams found the four-wheeler on the rocky riverbank. The man had walked away from the ATV.
