MARYSVILLE – Beginning this week, drivers onbusy Fourth Street between State Avenue and I-5 will face lane closures and detours.
The state plans to begin initial work on Sunday todig up and repave the quarter-mile section. During the project, which will take place at night, the city of Marysville also plans to replace two small water mains.
Work will take place between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. Some of the pipeline work in eastbound lanes will continue until 8 a.m., said Jeff Laycock, associate transportation engineer for Marysville.
Lanes will be closed at times for the work. Fourth Street along that stretch currently has two lanes in each direction and a left-turn lane.
At least one lane in each direction will stay open during work hours, and at least two lanes each way will be open during the day. Closures of freeway offramps and onramps will be needed at times as well, he said.
Drivers will be detoured to First Avenue, which goes under I-5 to the Tulalip Indian Reservation.
Lane closures are expected to be minimal the first week, Laycock said. The city plans to begin replacing the water mains on June 22.
The work is expected to go into September, with a deadline of Oct. 1.
