50 years ago (1958)
Alderwood Water District superintendent Mike Lindbloom threw the switch that put the district’s No. 7 well into operations just as the district reservoir was running dry because of usage during hot weather.
25 years ago (1983)
Gov. John Spellman met with members of the Northwest congressional delegation to talk about the financial crisis of Washington Public Power Supply System, which was facing problems so severe that the agency could either default or need a public bailout.
Charles Wickizer, a colonel in the Army Reserve and former vocation director and teacher in the Monroe School District, spent a week at West Point, N.Y., at an orientation and training conference at the U.S. Military Academy. He served as West Point liaison here.
