50 years ago (1958)
Modernization of the front of Wold Hardware Co. at 1811 Hewitt Ave. was completed. Lloyd Wold, owner and manager, said the changes were made to allow visual display for the benefit of customers. The storefront was moved back from the sidewalk and more windows were installed. John Bryant was the architect and Newland Construction was the contractor.
It was a hot day for heavy work but Don Hampton and LeVoy Mower, Everett School District employees, kept on the job of moving Everett Junior College from 25th Street and Oakes Avenue to the new buildings at the north end of Rockefeller Avenue.
25 years ago (1983)
Members of Leann JacobĀsen’s Camp Fire group, consisting of nine fifth-graders, earned about $3,000 over several months recycling newspapers, aluminum cans and getting refunds on garbage. They took a trip to Disneyland with the proceeds and returned home after their five-day excursion with $700 left over.
Snohomish County extension service agent Carol Boswell was conducting a Saturday workshop entitled “Neighborhoods Count” for people interested in bringing about change in their communities. Sponsored by the Council for Greater Everett, it would be held at the Housing Authority building on Poplar Street.
