Fly-In encourages camping out
If you can’t afford to go away for your summer break, Arlington Fly-In director Barbara Tolbert has a suggestion.
“Come and camp at the fly-in and find out what you’ve been missing at night,” Tolbert said.
The nonprofit Fly-In and its annual air show and convention are set for Wednesday through Sunday at the Arlington Municipal Airport. Nighttime activities include outdoor movies at dusk at the Runway Theater, a fireworks air show display and a lighted hot air balloon event.
Camping can be arranged at the fly-in’s Web site at www.nweaa.org.
Monroe set to open off-leash dog park
The city is set to open a new off-leash dog area south of the athletic fields within Sky River Park at a grand opening celebration from 10 to 11 a.m. July 19. The park is at 413 Sky River Parkway.
Before the opening event, volunteers are needed to build fencing and make other site preparations. A work party for volunteers is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Application forms for volunteers can be obtained at Monroe City Hall, 806 W. Main St.
Marysville opening elementary school
Marysville’s newest elementary school, Grove Elementary, will open its doors to students in September.
Final preparations are under way for hiring teachers, assembling furniture, forming a new PTA and ordering curriculum.
Grove Elementary, the district’s 11th elementary school, is on the corner of 67th Avenue and Grove Street.
It will serve approximately 400 students this year, with room for more.
Students will come from Allen Creek, Kellogg Marsh and Pinewood elementary schools.
