361 Stanwood area households advised to boil water

The 361 households served by the Kayak Estates water system near Stanwood have been advised to boil water before drinking it.
The advisory was issued Tuesday by the state Department of Health and Snohomish County PUD, which operates the water system.
The advisory was issued because a backup well being used while work was being done on the main well failed Monday night. A drop in water pressure can allow water to become contaminated. Tests are being conducted to check for bacteria, but results aren’t expected until later this week.
Water should be boiled before it is used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes or preparing food, according to state health officials
