The Seattle Seahawks opened training camp Friday without veteran safety Mike Green, who was waived to make room for three signed rookies. Green was let go, along with defensive tackle Kevin Brown and fullback Dan Curran, when the team signed a trio of draft picks.

Defensive end Lawrence Jackson, Seattle’s first-round pick, agreed to a five-year, $11.25 million contract, according to The Associated Press. Fullback Owen Schmitt and defensive tackle Red Bryant also signed contracts.

Green, 31, has spent two seasons with the Seahawks, appearing in 15 games with one start. He missed the entire 2006 season with a Lisfranc foot injury.

But Green was due to make $1.3 million this season as a backup to Deon Grant and Brian Russell. A healthy Jordan Babineaux also adds depth to the safety position.

With Jackson signed, the only remaining rookie without a contract is John Carlson. The second-round pick is a tight end from Notre Dame.
