‘Looming’ strike at Boeing, ‘dark cloud’ over Spirit

Yesterday, a Bank of America Securities analyst noted fears of a “looming” strike at Boeing, likely by its Machinists.
He said there’s a 70 percent chance that Boeing will see a work stoppage in the near future.
Herald readers so far have said in our online poll that there’s an 80 percent chance of a strike. Don’t forget to cast your vote in the poll, which will close early next week.
Boeing’s engineers union, SPEEA, couldn’t reach an agreement with key supplier Spirit AeroSystems in their “economic opener” in Wichita, Kan., yesterday.
“This vote is a rejection of Spirit management’s refusal to share the profits of the company with the employees who make it profitable,” said Ray Goforth, SPEEA executive director. “This casts a dark cloud on the future of Spirit.”
Will the “dark cloud” from Spirit negotiations impact SPEEA’s contract talks with the Boeing Co. later this year? Post a comment below or send me an e-mail with your thoughts.
