JETS: Brett Favre dropped back, looked downfield and launched a long spiral about 5 yards past his intended receiver. A few plays later, the Jets quarterback short-hopped a toss that thumped into the grass.
“I felt 38 today,” Favre said Wednesday after New York’s morning practice. “I’m not going to lie to you.”
Favre fired a few duds in his fifth practice since joining the Jets, saying his rocket right arm is a bit tired.
“My arm’s kind of dragging a little bit today,” Favre said. “It’s not really sore, but just fatigued. To be honest with you, I’m surprised that, I don’t want to say I feel good, that I’ve been able to make it through every practice so far.”
Favre was acquired from the Green Bay Packers late last Wednesday night, and has been practicing with the Jets since Saturday. He’s set to start Saturday’s preseason game against the Washington Redskins.
BRONCOS: The Denver Broncos addressed their injury-riddled defensive secondary on Wednesday by signing 13th-year pro Tyrone Poole. To make room, the Broncos released fourth-year cornerback Christian Morton. Poole, who was cut by Houston last summer, has played for Oakland (2006), New England (2003-05), Denver (2002), Indianapolis (1998-2000) and Carolina (1995-97) since entering the NFL as a first-round draft pick by the Panthers in 1995 from Fort Valley State University.
BROWNS: Cleveland Browns rookie tight end Martin Rucker will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his knee and miss four to six weeks. Rucker twisted his knee during practice Monday. He will have a piece of cartilage removed from the knee today, Browns coach Romeo Crennel said Wednesday. The Browns have struggled during training camp with injuries at tight end. But Kellen Winslow (hamstring) and Steve Heiden (knee) returned to team drills this week.
CARDINALS: The Arizona Cardinals signed linebacker Brandon Moore to a one-year contract on Wednesday. The Cardinals released linebacker David Holloway to make room on the roster for the former San Francisco 49er. Moore had 22 tackles and 21/2 sacks last season and was cut by the 49ers earlier in the week.
Meanwhile, Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said first-round draft pick Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie should play Saturday in Arizona’s second preseason game at Kansas City. Rodgers-Cromartie was carted off the practice field on Tuesday after suffering an ankle injury but was back on the field Wednesday.
PATRIOTS: The New England Patriots signed veteran cornerback Ade Jimoh on Wednesday to bolster a position that has been depleted by injuries and free agent losses. Jimoh played four seasons with the Washington Redskins after being signed in 2003 as a rookie free agent. He signed with the Chicago Bears in 2007, but was placed on the injured reserve list in November with a broken collarbone.
TITANS: Tennessee linebacker Ryan Fowler considers his steroids case with the NFL closed. Fowler said Wednesday he hasn’t heard from the league since requesting a meeting to address allegations that he bought performance-enhancing drugs from a Texas-based steroids dealer in 2006. The NFL sent him a letter in June stating he faced an investigation and possible suspension. Fowler said he assumes the probe has ended with no punishment planned.
