STANWOOD – A crash involving three vehicles closed Highway 532 and resulted in a man being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with possible life-threatening injuries, the Washington State Patrol reported.
The accident occurred at 12:14 p.m. at Sunday Lake Road, Trooper Keith Leary said. One of the vehicles caught fire.
A truck was traveling westbound when it struck the rear of a Buick LeSabre, pushing it over the center line into oncoming eastbound traffic, Leary said. The Buick was then struck by a Ranger pickup truck and burst into flame.
The driver of the pickup tried to avoid the accident but was unsuccessful.
The driver of the Buick was transported to Colby Medical Campus with non life threatening injuries. Her passenger was rushed by helicopter for emergency treatment.
The highway was still closed in both directions and not expected to reopen until about 3 p.m., Leary said.
