LYNNWOOD — A Lynnwood woman died Thursday as a result of burns she received while making oatmeal the day before.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office said Barbara Thomas, 72, had burns covering a third of her body. They ruled the death accidental.

Thomas was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Wednesday afternoon after her nightgown caught fire.

She apparently was reaching over a stove cooking breakfast, Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.

Crews were called around 1:15 p.m. to the mobile home in the 14300 block of Admiralty Way, Hynes said.

The woman’s husband told firefighters he used a spray attachment from the kitchen sink to put the fire out.

There was no damage to the couple’s home.
