Gravely ill Gold Bar man doing better, family says

Published 8:42 pm Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Cory Zoutte, the 38-year-old Gold Bar man who suddenly fell deathly ill last month, is doing better at the University of Washington Medical Center, his family reports.

Doctors are weaning Zoutte off some medications and he has responded to commands. Doctors are still concerned about his kidney and brain function, said Shirley Watne, Zoutte’s mother-in-law.

“If anyone has any miracles left we’d like to use one,” Watne said in an e-mail to supporters.

A month ago, Zoutte caught what seemed to be a chest cold. Two days later, the father of four nearly died. He has spent the last month heavily sedated. Doctors still don’t know why Zoutte became ill so quickly. He continues to battle the infection that struck him down.

Marie Deebach was moved by Zoutte’s story and is planning a fundraiser form 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Thursday at the Wild Rock Bar &Grill, 36728 U.S. 2, Startup. Deebach runs a karaoke show at the bar and she plans to donate her wages and tips for the night.

The bar’s restaurant is open to families until 10 p.m.

How to help

Donations to help the family with medical and living expenses may be made to the Zoutte Family Care Fund at any Bank of America branch.
