Everett
County crews working to keep streets clear
About 15 Snohomish County trucks sanded roads over the weekend, and they’ll continue working throughout this week as frigid temperatures and snow blows through the region. The county has a total of 36 sand trucks that can be used as needed.
The county Friday issued a warning for snow, ice and wind. Weather updates and information on how county crews are responding as the harsh weather continues this week can be found at www.snoco.org.

Donate cold-weather clothes at the library
The Everett Public Library is collecting mittens, gloves, hats and scarves through the end of the year for residents of local homeless and aid shelters. All donations should be new items. Donations will be displayed at the Giving Tree at the library’s main branch.
Donations are being accepted at the main branch at 2702 Hoyt Ave. in downtown Everett and at the Evergreen Branch at 9512 Evergreen Way in south Everett. Hours for donations are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Get your pet’s photo taken with Santa Claus
Santa Claus is scheduled to appear at Rodland Toyota at 6816 Evergreen Way in Everett from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday to sit for portraits with pets. Each portrait sitting will cost $20 and will include a framed photo and a disc with up to seven other photographs.
All pets including dogs, cats and small mammals are welcome. Proceeds will benefit the Everett Animal Shelter.

Clothes for Kids receives $500 grant
Clothes for Kids, a Lynnwood-based nonprofit working with low-income families, has been awarded a $500 grant.
The grant was awarded by the Greater Everett Community Foundation on behalf of Mountain Pacific Bank Employee and Director’s Giving Fund.
Clothes for Kids provides free clothing and school supplies for low-income children in the Edmonds School District. The group also provides information about parenting, youth programs and other subjects.
The Greater Everett Community Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization.

Santa will pay a visit to Sky Valley Food Bank
Families struggling to make it this holiday can pick up food and new toys while their children visit with Santa and make crafts.
The Christmas gala at the Sky Valley Food Bank is set for 9 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday. The community donated hundreds of new toys for the event and one family purchased 700 Christmas stockings.

Declutter your life at library seminar
An upcoming seminar at the Mukilteo Library aims to help people declutter their lives and become more organized.
The free event is scheduled for 10 to 11 a.m. Jan. 10 at the library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd.
Laura Leist, president of the National Association of Professional Organizers, plans to teach the secrets of how people can gain greater control over their space, time and things.

City Council to discuss plan for riverfront
The City Council will begin discussing how to better connect the historic downtown area and the Snohomish riverfront at a meeting at 7 tonight at 1601 Ave. D. The city wants to strengthen views, boating, scenery and shopping. It is seeking direction on how best to proceed. No decisions are expected.
The Rails and Trails Advisory Committee also will present a progress report on the Eastside Rail Corridor.
Sultan
Adopt a street or park to keep Sultan clean
Residents of Sultan are banding together to take care of the city. Volunteer to adopt a city street or park as part of a new program to clean up litter.
