MARYSVILLE — A smoldering cigarette appears to be the cause of an early morning fire that left a family of four homeless this morning.

A ladder truck and three engine companies arrived at the home on 6900 block of 88th Place NE about 4 a.m., according to the Marysville Fire District.

When firefighters arrived, an attached garage was on fire and the family was evacuating the house. Smoke was seeping out from the garage and the eaves of the two-story wood frame home.

No one was hurt and firefighters rescued the family cat from a bedroom. The Marysville Fire District and the Red Cross are helping the family find temporary housing.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire, which caused an estimated $80,000 in damage.
