Arlington
Free movie for kids during winter break
The city of Arlington and the Olympic Theater are set to offer a free showing of “Kung Fu Panda” for children on their break from school.
This animated comedy is about a panda named Po, who must become a kung fu master to save the Valley of Peace from a villainous snow leopard.
The movie is scheduled to be shown at 1 p.m. today and Wednesday at the theater, 107 N. Olympic Ave.

The Everett Public Library hosts a brown-bag book discussion the first Tuesday of each month. Bring your lunch and some thoughts about books you’ve been reading.

Burst pipe damages Forest Park playground
An outdoor pipe leading to a water playground at Forest Park broke Christmas Day, sending water into a nearby grassy area. Because the pipe broke on Christmas, city workers were not immediately aware of the problem, said Kate Reardon, Everett city spokeswoman.
There’s no estimate on the damages but it should be an easy fix, she said.
Lynnwood
Party with the Eagles on New Year’s Eve
Join the Lynnwood Eagles for a New Year’s Eve party. The night will begin with a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by live music featuring Starbird from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. You must be 21 or older.
Tickets cost $20 each and can be purchased at the bar at its hall, 19223 Highway 99.

Marysville
Food bank to stay closed during move
The Marysville Community Food Bank is scheduled to remain closed until Jan. 5, while supplies are moved to the new food bank site. No food will be distributed during that time.
The new food bank is located behind St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 4150 88th St. NE, east of I-5 at exit 201.
The new food bank distribution days and times will be 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and 9 to 11 a.m. Fridays. The food bank will not be open on Saturdays.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house at the new Marysville Community Food Bank is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday. The food bank plans to open Jan. 6.
Mill Creek
Senior center looking for new members
The Senior Center is soliciting new members for 2009. Since Mill Creek is a branch of the Northshore Senior Center, members have access to the senior centers in Bothell, Woodinville and Kenmore.
Members receive discounts on merchandise at area stores and free wellness services and support for family caregivers. The annual membership costs $25, or $45 per couple.

Monroe
City offices to close Friday to save money
All City Hall and police department administrative offices will be closed Friday for the first of two furlough days.
The city opted to shut down city operations on two days as a cost-saving measure. The other choice was laying off more staff, but city officials say that might still happen.
City employees will take the second furlough day at the discretion of their supervisors.
