STANWOOD — Crews this afternoon were building a second berm along Highway 532 to protect downtown Stanwood from rising flood waters.

There a few soft spots in a sand berm that was built earlier today along the south side of the highway. Crews are building the second berm parallel to the first. Officials have closed down the eastbound lanes of the highway and rerouting traffic through downtown.

The Stillaguamish River at Stanwood is expected to crest at 6 p.m. today.
