Bipartisan work group announced
Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon announced Friday that he has created a task force dedicated to bringing economic competition to the Puget Sound region.
Reardon partnered with King County Councilman Pete von Reichbauer to create the task force, which will include business, labor and government leaders. They will focus on creating jobs and developing a comprehensive plan to weather this and future economic crises.
“To stay competitive, both nationally and internationally, we must anticipate emerging markets and plan accordingly. By working with local businesses and pursuing foreign investment, and by guiding our region’s trade schools and universities into emphasizing high growth disciplines, the BREG can help shape our economic future,” Reardon said.

New County Council leadership elected
Councilman Mike Cooper, the council’s vice chairman for 2008, was elected last week to be council chairman this year. Councilman Dave Gossett, a former council chairman, will be vice-chairman this year.
Cooper takes the reins from Councilman Dave Somers, who was chairman in 2008.
Museum offers kids’ vision and hearing tests
The Imagine Children’s Museum has scheduled a healthy kids day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. It will include a hearing and vision screenings, nutritional and fitness advice healthy snack recipe books and an obstacle course. The museum is at 1502 Wall St.

Help Lynnwood plan for the future
Step three, the “Take Action” task force is now under way, part of Lynnwood Moving Forward: Our Community Vision.
The task force is made up of more than 25 residents who have worked on the task force. The group will help guide implementation of the vision, and ultimately influence the city’s policies, resource decisions, and the future, according to Mayor Don Gough.
The kickoff meeting is on Jan. 16.
Mountlake Terrace
Lions Club raises scholarship money
The Terrace-Brier Lions Club collected $172 in donations for the Michelle Ringler Recreation Scholarship Fund at a tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 6. In 2008, the scholarship helped 78 children participate in dance classes, swimming lessons, summer camps and other special programs.
Ringler worked at the Recreation Pavilion for 16 years before she died of illness in 2008. Her career began as a recreation leader working with special needs children and later she worked at the service counter.
The Fund, supported by private donations, has helped more than 400 children register for recreation programs since 2002.

Puget Sound Energy replacing gas lines
Puget Sound Energy will be replacing older gas service lines to homes and businesses in Snohomish, King and Pierce Counties.
Approximately 30 lines installed prior to 1972 in Mountlake Terrace will be replaced, along with 2,500 in Snohomish, King and Pierce Counties.

Relay For Life looking for volunteers
The Stanwood-Camano Relay For Life committee welcomes community members to help plan and participate in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life Celebration scheduled for May 29 and 30 the Stanwood High School stadium.
To volunteer to help or learn more about the event, you can attend a meeting set for 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Stanwood-Camano School District board room, 26920 Pioneer Highway.
Committees include team development, survivor support, promotion and publicity, logistics and setup, sponsorship, luminaria, fundraising, entertainment and youth involvement.

Friends of the Library meet on Tuesday
Registered nurse Liz Browning plans to talk about cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and other health risks at a meeting of the Stanwood-Camano Friends of the Library.

Sex offender meeting planned for Tuesday
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is planning to hold a meeting Tuesday about a registered sex offender living in the 5100 block of 276th Street NW, Stanwood.
Craig Edwards, 51, has been convicted of several sex crimes, dating back to the 1980s, according to the sheriff’s office. He has numerous restrictions as part of his release.
The previous meeting was canceled due to snow and ice.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday in the gym at Cedarhome Elementary Schook, 27911 68th Ave. NW.
