Arlington

Garbage vouchers, flood clean-up kits available

Snohomish County Red Cross volunteers plan to hand out flood clean-up kits from noon to 6 p.m. today in the City Hall parking lot on N. Olympic Avenue downtown.

Anyone affected by floodwater can pick up a kit, which includes a quart of bleach, a quart of all-purpose cleaner, a sponge, a hard-surface brush, gloves, a garbage bag, mop, kitchen broom, squeegee, push broom and information on mold.

Also available to flood victims will be free garbage vouchers that can be used at county refuse centers.

First Street closed today

First Street is scheduled to be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. today from N. Olympic Avenue to MacLeod Street. Flaggers will be stationed at the intersection of MacLeod and First streets.

Community Services needs board members

Village Community Services is recruiting volunteers to sit on its board of directors.

The nonprofit agency is looking for people who believe in the rights and potential of people with disabilities and want to work toward inclusion in the work force and community.

The village board of directors meets the last Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.

Darrington

Highway 20 reopens east of Concrete

For those traveling Highway 530 to Highway 20 and back, the state Department of Transportation has opened one lane of Highway 20 just east of the Concrete.

Highway crews are alternating one-way traffic through the area. The highway was closed last week after several mudslides blocked the road.

Granite Falls

Library group to meet

The Friends of the Granite Falls Library invites the public to its meeting set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the library, 815 E. Galena St.

The group, which operates independently of the library, raises funds for library programs and seeks new members.

Marysville

City approves trucking maintenance facility

The city of Marysville has approved a plan for a large trucking storage and maintenance facility at 5129 Highway 529, between Ebey and Steamboat sloughs.

Washington Trucking, a subsidiary of Whitehorse Ventures LLC of Everett, plans to build a 21,300-square-foot, two-story building; a storage area for trucks and heavy equipment; a commercial truck scale; and six storage bins for retail sales of topsoil and landscape rock.

Public hearings on the plan were held in November. The City Council gave its approval on Monday.

Stanwood

Call 511 for updates on highway information

Stanwood Camano Fire &Rescue reminds people to call the state Department of Transportation’s 511 travel information number to check on conditions along Highway 532 at any time.

The 511 program is designed to assist motorists in getting up-to-date road conditions, especially those that result from vehicle collisions.

Stanwood Camano Fire officers have direct access to the state’s transportation command center and can advise the center directly about incidents or emergencies that may affect traffic on the highway.

How does it work? Dial 511 and say “traffic.” Next say the highway number and receive an update.

Youth advisory council seeks members ages 11-18

Stanwood Camano Community Resources Foundation officials are looking for young people to serve on the advisory council for the new youth activity center in Stanwood.

Those ages 11-18 are eligible to apply. Deadline is Jan. 30.

The council advises the foundation regarding activities and programs offered at the youth center.

Middle and high school age students are welcome to enjoy the new youth center at the Stanwood Camano Community Resource Center.

The center is open from 2 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at 9620 271st St. NW, across from the Stanwood Library.

Applications for the advisory council are available at Stanwood Camano Community Resource Center, next door to the youth center.
