Arlington
Airport officials ask for snow photos
Arlington Municipal Airport staff members are looking for aerial photographs of the Arlington area covered in snow. Photos can be sent to airport@ci.arlington.wa.us.
Airport runways were closed for several days during the last of the December snowstorms. During snow removal operations, airport employees worked in shifts using two snowplow trucks, a front-end loader for moving snow drifts and shovels for clearing off runway lights.

Granite Falls
School district seeks comment on spending
With the Legislature expected to make major cuts to education spending, the Granite Falls School District has scheduled a community forum for 6 p.m. Thursday at Mountain Way Elementary School, 702 N. Granite Ave., to explain the budget process and ask for public input on funding priorities.
Marysville
Applications due soon for advanced schooling
The Marysville School District is accepting applications from families interested in enrolling their students in the Highly Capable program for the 2009-10 school year. Applications are due Jan. 30.
The Highly Capable program is for students in second through eighth grades. The program is based at Pinewood Elementary and at each of the district’s three middle schools.
Students must go through the district’s application and assessment process in order to be considered for the program. Applications are available online, in school offices and at the district office.

Cancer Society’s Relay for Life kickoff Thursday
The kickoff event for the North Snohomish County Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society is 6 p.m. Thursday at Kellogg Marsh Grange, 67th Avenue NE and 100th Street NE in Marysville.
Participants can learn more about the fundraiser, meet the event leaders, join or form relay teams and enjoy snacks.
The Relay for Life of North Snohomish County, the 10th annual fundraising event, is scheduled for June 13-14 at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

Stanwood
Lions Club seeks glasses for international program
Stanwood Lions Club is collecting used glasses for its international sight program.
Collection boxes are now up at community and senior centers, libraries, and pharmacies throughout the Stanwood and Camano Island area.
The club typically sends more than 2,000 pairs of glasses every year to a Lions Club eye-glass refurbishing center near Olympia.
During the last six months of 2008, the center sent more than 22,000 pairs of refurbished glasses to medical missions in Peru, Mexico, El Salvador, Ukraine, Nigeria, Thailand, the Philippines, Mongolia, Nepal and Ghana.

Island County
Red Cross chapter struggling to meet needs
T.J. Harmon, executive director of the Island County Chapter of the American Red Cross, has sent out a call for help.
The chapter is having trouble financially sustaining programs that meet community needs, and even small donations are helpful, Harmon said.
Recently the chapter helped run the shelter in Stanwood for flood victims.
Donations can be mailed to American Red Cross, P.O. Box 1588, Oak Harbor, WA 98277.
