MARYSVILLE — A dropped wallet helped lead police to a Snohomish man wanted in connection with a Jan. 27 assault.

Police said they found the man’s wallet near where a Marysville woman was pistol-whipped outside a 7-Eleven store, Marysville police Cmdr. Ralph Krusey said.

Last week, police released photos of Mikhail P. Shutov and Kevin D. Stagner as part of their investigation into the attack on the woman.

The woman, 40, had asked Stagner for a ride home, according to court papers. Shutov allegedly was in the vehicle.

When the woman tried to get out, the men allegedly tried to stop her and she was hit on the head with a handgun, Krusey said. The handgun fired, but no one was hit.

The men drove off. Shutov’s wallet was found in the convenience store parking lot. Police believe the men were trying to rob the woman, the court documents said.

The woman was taken to the hospital with a 3-inch cut on her head requiring staples.

The suspects’ truck and the handgun have been retrieved, Krusey said.

A confidential informant helped lead detectives to arrest Stagner in Lynnwood on Friday, police said. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of unlawful imprisonment.

Shutov turned himself in to Marysville police Saturday. He was jailed for investigation of first-degree assault and unlawful imprisonment.
