Nudity is the theme for Unclad 2009 Fine Art Show, an annual event in Stanwood featuring the work of 105 artists who study the human form.

The art show is planned for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 at Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, 27130 102nd Ave. NW.

Admission is free. For more information, go to www.uncladart.com.

The 24-Hour Life Drawing Marathon is planned at Gallery by the Bay on March 20 in Stanwood.

Models will pose in their birthday suits during the event, which benefits the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

Gallery owner Gayle Picken says models come in all shapes and sizes.

“We have a variety of models from the Puget Sound area,” she says. “Many artists participate in life drawing groups that meet weekly and draw from live models.”

There is no guarantee that the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation this year will match the success of the past two years when it gave out more than $250,000 in scholarship money.

This year, the foundation, together with community service organizations and businesses, is offering more than 100 scholarships to the class of 2009. Any student who lives within the Stanwood-Camano School District, including home-schooled students and those who attend private schools outside of the area, are eligible for scholarships.

Apply by March 13 at the scholarship Web site at www.s-ccs.org.

One donor is Mike Saylor, who owns a local heating and cooling business, Stilly River Mechanical.

“He received several local scholarships about six years ago and has now returned the favor by offering the ‘Stilly River Mechanical Vocational Scholarship,’ ” said Theresa Metzger, executive director of the foundation. “The circle is complete.”

Offering steak and lobster at the Granite Falls Eagles on Valentine’s Day was a huge success. Diners were turned away when food ran out after about 120 meals were served. They raised more than $400 for the Max Baer Heart Fund, says organizer Judy Edwards.

The Stanwood Coin Club’s 48th annual Coin Show is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Stanwood Senior Center, 7430 276th St. NW.

It’s billed as an opportunity for beginners to get started in the hobby, or for long-time collectors to fill a gap. Find raffles, free appraisals, free hourly drawings, refreshments, expert kibitzers and the chance to buy, sell and trade coins or tokens.

Show members provide some exhibits of collection types, a selection of reference material and are available for discussion.
