Kennedy overwhelms Meadowdale girls

TACOMA — Yaz Fuller had 19 points and Kennedy defeated Meadowdale 63-31 in the semifinals of the Class 3A girls tournament on Friday night.
Kennedy will face Shadle Park for in the championship game on Saturday. It will be their fourth appearance and second straight trip to the championship game after falling to Auburn Riverside 48-40 last year. Kennedy is 0-3 in championship games.
Meadowdale jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with all five points coming from Julia Fjortoft. But Fuller led Kennedy on a 20-1 run over the next eight minutes to take a commanding 20-6 lead.
Kennedy took a 25-11 lead into the half, but Fjortoft got Meadowdale’s offense going early in the third quarter and the Mavericks closed to 11. Fuller and Daidra Brown then sparked a 20-1 run, including three consecutive 3-pointers by Fuller, to take an insurmountable 51-21 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Kennedy pressured Meadowdale into 33 turnovers, including 17 steals. Brown finished with 10 points and five steals.
Fjortoft scored led the way for Meadowdale with 11 points.
