RENTON — An effort to renovate the childhood home of guitar legend Jimi Hendrix has failed.

The Seattle Times reports a demolition crew has taken apart the house that had been moved from Seattle to Renton.

The owner, Pete Sikov, says pieces of the house have been saved and may be sold later.

Hendrix lived in the house in the 1950s from the ages of 10 to 13. He choked to death in 1970 in London at the age of 27.

Hendrix biographer Charles Cross says the home was where the young Hendrix first discovered music.
