Volunteer: Domestic violence services class is set

Domestic Violence SerĀ­vices of Snohomish County will present a six-week community education and volunteer training class for people interested in volunteering for direct service working with domestic violence victims.

Classes will be held 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays beginning May 4 through June 8. One class will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 16. All free classes will take place in a downtown Everett location.

Volunteers must be willing to commit to 10 hours of time within a six-month period. Topics include: an overview of domestic violence, domestic violence and the effect on children, safety planning, sexual assault, diversity, and domestic violence, drugs and alcohol.

Volunteer: Kids’ Kloset needs help

Volunteers are needed for Arlington Kids’ Kloset, a nonĀ­profit organization that helps to clothe pre-school through high school students.

Those interested would prepare clothing for display and help children select their school clothes.

The organization is at 135 S. French St., Arlington, and follows the Arlington School District calendar. Kids’ Kloset does close June 1 and reopens Aug. 1.

Volunteers work a two- to three-hour shift once a week or twice a month. Call 360-435-4875 for more information.

Help: Keep an eye on Edmonds beach

Edmonds Parks and Recreation is looking for people who want to spend a few hours volunteering as beach docents this summer at the Olympic Beach Visitor Station. The station is open from noon to 5 p.m. every weekend from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

This volunteer opportunity is perfect for weekend marine biologists, or anyone who enjoys meeting and sharing ideas with beach visitors, and who wants to help preserve Edmonds’ waterfront beauty and learn about tidepool plants and animals. Those interested can also find out more at the spring beach cleanup and low-tide beach walk from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 25 at Olympic Beach at the foot of Dayton Street in Edmonds, adjacent to the public fishing pier.

Volunteer: Annual expo at Everett Mall

The 2009 United Way Volunteer Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Everett Mall.

The expo is a one-stop shopping event for volunteer opportunities in Snohomish County. Nonprofit organizations and agencies looking for volunteers are invited to register for this event by visiting www.uwsc.org.
