MILL CREEK — It took one apparent misstep for Shorewood to capitalize for a Western Conference South Division softball win.
With two outs in the fourth inning, Shorewood’s Ashley Salazar doubled off Jackson pitcher Dani Jackman. An illegal pitch call followed, allowing Salazar to move to third base. Chloe Pope-Levison followed with a run-scoring single for the Thunderbirds.
“They took advantage of that mistake and won the game,” Jackson head coach Mike Moran said. “It was a pretty good game, the errors didn’t come into play as far as runs scored.”
Jackson, according to Moran, threatened with runners in scoring position in every inning. Jackman tripled with two outs in the fourth inning before the next batter flied out. Julia Covello doubled with two outs in the second inning, but Jackson couldn’t manage hits with runners in scoring position.
“We couldn’t string a rally together,” Moran said. “We just couldn’t put it together … we just didn’t execute.”
Olivia Jacobs struck out six batters for Shorewood and Jackman struck out nine.
