Arlington: City offices closed Friday

City employees will take the first of their unpaid furlough days on Friday. City Hall will be closed Friday through the Monday holiday.

Teen murder mystery comes to the library

There’s been a (fictional) murder at the Arlington Library, and middle and high school students are invited to join the whodunit. “Poetic Justice,” a live-action murder mystery, is set for 8 p.m. May 29 at the library 135 N. Washington Ave. Registration is required.

Camano Island: Grow your veggies

Learn how to grow your own groceries at a class set for 7 tonight at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 E. Camano Drive.

Joy Nelson, a practicing wildlife habitat steward, plans to talk about growing vegetables. Nelson grows herbs and vegetables from seeds and also sells seed starts. At several of the local farmers markets, she gives classes in conjunction with Snohomish County Master Gardeners in “Vegetable Gardening 101.”

The presentation is part of a public education series hosted the third Wednesday of the month by the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project.

Marysville: CPR, first aid classes offered

Marysville is providing a class in first aid and training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The first aid class is scheduled for 5:45 to 9 p.m. May 27 and the CPR class 6 to 9 p.m. May 28, both at the Ken Baxter Senior Community Center, 514 Delta Ave.

Anyone completing one of the classes will receive a certification in first aid or CPR. The cost is $25 per class. Registration is required.

Warm Beach: Work weekend scheduled

There’s work to do at Warm Beach Christian Camp and Conference Center, and leaders at the camp have set aside a weekend to get it done.

People who enjoy the camp or want to help a community organization can sign up to stay at the camp Friday and Saturday.

The event begins Friday evening with social time. Work on a list of projects, including cleaning, carpentry, painting and sewing, is scheduled for Saturday. Sunday morning there is a church service.

People can choose to stay an extra night and continue working on the projects on Memorial Day. The cost is $29 per person for ages 13 and up, $15 for children ages 5 to 12, and children age 4 and under can attend for free.
