EVERETT — A man rescued Monday from Silver Lake remained in critical condition today at an Everett hospital.
Police divers pulled the Everett man, 25, out of about 6 feet of water Monday afternoon after he was reported missing, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.
“He was in the water enjoying the sunshine, enjoying the water,” Goetz said.
The beach was crowded with families enjoying the last day of a warm holiday weekend when Everett police and fire personnel arrived at the lake after receiving reports of a missing swimmer about 4:40 p.m.
The man had been in the swimming area and didn’t surface.
About 22 minutes after police received the call, a diver found the man, Goetz said. The man was brought to shore, where Everett firefighters attempted to revive him. He was taken to Providence Everett Medical Center’s Colby Campus.
Police don’t know how long the man was under water.
“He was wearing jeans and a T-shirt. We don’t know if that was a factor, but sometimes people have trouble swimming in jeans,” Goetz said.
The man was not wearing a life jacket. No lifeguards were on duty at the time.
