Political FYI: Lynnwood: Council member in mayor’s race

Lynnwood Councilwoman Lisa Utter is running for mayor.

Utter has served on the council since 1998 and is a two-time former council president.

While Mayor Don Gough has not announced whether he will run for re-election, current Lynnwood council president Loren Simmonds is also running for the city’s mayoral position.

Utter says she is concerned that Lynnwood is spending money on new staff and a new television station in a tough economy. In her campaign announcement, Utter blamed Gough for proposing those expenditures. The city must find “ways to contain costs and build a community environment that expands our tax base,” she said.

Utter has served on Sound Transit, Community Transit and Puget Sound Regional Council committees and boards. She also serves on the county boards that distribute and monitor federal grants for economic development, community services, and emergency food and shelter.
