BOTHELL — A Bothell man arrested after allegedly driving off with neighborhood children in his pickup truck is now facing a felony charge.
Dean Kinsman, 48, was charged Friday with unlawful imprisonment. Prosecutors allege that Kinsman took a 9-year-old boy to a nearby store and then drove off with a 4-year-old girl.
Both children knew Kinsman from the neighborhood and went with him willingly, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Mark Roe wrote in charging papers.
“The law is very clear that it is illegal to take anyone’s children anywhere without prior permission of the parents,” he wrote.
Kinsman allegedly drove the boy to a Fred Meyer, bought him a bike and brought him back home, according to court documents. He then asked a 4-year-old girl to get in his truck.
He later told police he was taking the girl home but witnesses said he drove passed the girl’s house and stopped in the driveway of his own house. The girl’s brother grabbed his sister out of the truck.
It is unclear why the man stopped at his house, Roe wrote.
Kinsman doesn’t have any previous felony convictions.
