Bid on school items
The Edmonds School District plans to auction used equipment at an auction at 10 a.m. Friday.
Chairs, shop tools and kitchen equipment will be up for bid. Much of the equipment was used at Lynnwood High School. A new high school has been built and will open to students in the fall.
The auction will be at the old Lynnwood High School, 3001 184th St. SW.
“Fill the Boot” for Muscular Dystrophy: Lynnwood firefighters will volunteer their time and use their boots Friday to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. They’ll accept cash or checks from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the intersection of 196th Street SW and 44th Avenue W. in Lynnwood.
Their goal is $14,000. The Lynnwood Fire Department raised almost $12,000 last year to support research, fund clinical services, equipment and general medical needs provided to local area patients free of charge by the MDA.
Arlington furloughs: Heads of city departments in Arlington will take unpaid furlough days through the rest of the year.
The Arlington City Council recently amended the contracts of department directors to include four unpaid holidays and eight unpaid furlough days — the same schedule for city staff members.
With a 19 percent drop in sales tax revenue, employees are taking the unpaid time off in order to keep staffing at current levels. Police and fire unions also are anticipated to agree to furloughs, city administrator Allen Johnson said.
