ARLINGTON — A man shot by Snohomish County deputies after a domestic dispute July 2 died last week at a Seattle hospital.
The death of Dwight Monnie, 64, was announced Tuesday by the Snohomish County medical examiner. The Arlington man died Thursday at Harborview Medical Center as a result of gunshot wounds.
A multiagency task force of homicide detectives already was investigating the shooting, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said. The man’s death doesn’t modify the investigation.
Deputies were called to an Arlington home after a woman reported being threatened by a man with a firearm, Goetz said.
Monnie was shot after he allegedly failed to comply with deputies’ orders to put down his handgun. He was taken by helicopter to Harborview where he remained until his death.
The two deputies involved in the incident, 38 and 32, were placed on administrative leave. They are scheduled to return to duty on Friday, sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
Monnie is the third person to die in a police-involved shooting in Snohomish County since May 29.
Niles Meservey was shot by Everett police behind the Chuckwagon Inn on June 10. The Stanwood man reportedly was intoxicated and trying to drive away. Officers reportedly tried to subdue the man with a stun gun as he sat at the wheel of his car.
On May 29, Daniel Wasilchen of Verlot was shot in front of his home by a Snohomish County deputy and a reserve deputy. Police were called after a reported dispute with a weed abatement official.
Those cases all remain open.
The Nov. 8 shooting death of Dustin Willard in Everett also remains under investigation, officials said.
It will be up to Snohomish County prosecutors to determine if the shootings legally were justified.
