Arlington: First new I-5 offramp is open

A new offramp from southbound I-5 to 172nd Street NE in Smokey Point opened Thursday. The work is part of a $30.5 million reconstruction of the interchange.

The offramp, west of the previous offramp, is one of four that will be rebuilt or improved. More than 40,000 vehicles use the interchange daily, according to state officials.

Also planned are a new two-lane loop ramp from westbound 172nd Street NE to southbound I-5, new right-turn lanes from eastbound 172nd Street NE to southbound I-5 and wider onramps and offramps at the rest of the interchange.

Work began this spring and is expected to be done next year.

Scholarships worth $100,562 are awarded

The Arlington chapter of Dollars for Scholars recently awarded scholarships totaling $100,562 to Arlington High School graduates.

The scholarships were given on behalf of 35 individuals, clubs and organizations in Arlington, including money raised through the efforts of Arlington Dollars for Scholars.

Shakespeare in the park on Saturday

Last Leaf Productions of Monroe plans to stage “The Taming of the Shrew” at 6 p.m. Saturday at Terrace Park, 809 E. Fifth St.

The city and the Friends of Arlington Library are sponsors of the free presentation. Those who attend are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs.

Airport has vacant hangars, restaurant

Arlington Municipal Airport officials are looking for people who want to lease or purchase empty hangars at the airport.

Also available for lease is a restaurant building north of the main tie-down ramp on the east side of the airport.

Camano Island: Fire station open house

Camano Island Fire and Rescue Chief Mike Ganz will talk about construction at the Country Club firehouse and answer questions about the upcoming fire service levy election.

An open house is 6 p.m. Tuesday at the country club, 1243 Beach Drive. Coffee and cookies will be served.

Marysville: Outdoor concerts continue

The rock band Casuals plays at Jennings Park tonight as part of the city’s summer outdoor concert series at 7 p.m. at the park, 6915 Armar Road.

Shows take place at 7 p.m. each Friday through Aug. 15 at Jennings Park and at noon each Thursday through Aug. 13 at Comeford Park, 514 Delta Ave.
