Blood from 2008 attack in Everett leads to suspect’s arrest

EVERETT — Drops of blood recovered outside a south Everett apartment building more than a year ago helped police put a man behind bars Wednesday in connection with a home-invasion attack that left a man with stab wounds.

The assault happened early in the morning of June 29, 2008, in the 12400 block of Admiralty Way, according to a police affidavit filed Thursday in Everett District Court.

A man woke up to find a stranger in his apartment attacking him, the court document said. The man’s wife and children scared the intruder off, and the intruder left behind a trail of blood as he made his escape.

Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives collected the blood droplets and sent them to the Washington State Crime lab to be processed for a possible DNA match. In July, tests came back as a match to a Lynnwood man, 22, who is a convicted felon.

On Wednesday, the man was arrested while he was checking in at a Department of Corrections parole office, the court document said. He said he was not responsible for the June 2008 attack.

The man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree assault and first-degree burglary.
