Front Porch: Orca capture noted

In memory of the 45 southern resident orcas captured in Washington state, and 13 orcas killed during the captures that began in 1970, a commemoration is planned on Whidbey Island for 4 p.m. Sunday at the Coupeville Recreation Hall, 901 NW Alexander St., Coupeville.

It’s the 39th anniversary of the first Penn Cove orca capture and Lolita, the only survivor, who lives alone at the Miami Seaquarium where she was delivered in 1970.

Senior games today: GenCare Lifestyle in Everett hosts senior games today in Everett.

It starts at noon at Legion Park, 145 Alverson Blvd.

Seniors will play games to encourage them to keep active for good health.

GenCare, a retirement community, is located in Granite Falls and Lynnwood.

Breast-feeding day feted: Nursing moms plan to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week by gathering at 10 a.m. Saturday in Wiggums Hollow Park, 2808 10th St., Everett.

The event, sponsored by the Breastfeeding Coalition of Snohomish County, includes entertainment, children’s activities and lots of information about family care and safety.
