EVERETT — Fire investigators on Monday evening were trying to determine what started a fire that displaced four people.

Firefighters were summoned to a two-story home near the intersection of Pine and 21st streets about 4;20 p.m., Everett Fire Department Acting Battalion Chief Don Plucker said.

Nobody got hurt, but the four people living at the house were left without a home. Local Red Cross volunteers were helping them.

About two dozen firefighters were called to fight the fire, which may have started on the back porch, Plucker said. Smoke was seen from miles away.

The home suffered extensive damage, Plucker said.

Wind carried smoke and ashes right into Sean Curran’s back yard several blocks away.

Curran came by the scene just after 7 p.m. to find out what happened.

His family had to close all windows and leave the house for a while to escape smoke.
