Dana nibbles into Somers’ lead

EVERETT — Democratic Councilman Dave Somers’ lead in the Nov. 3 election continued to shrink Friday, although Republican opponent Steve Dana still trailed by a fair margin.

Somers held 53 percent of the vote to Dana’s 46.6 percent, or 15,464 to 13,603 votes. The margin has shrunk by about 1 percent since election night.

While Dana said he was not particularly optimistic, he will not concede until the results are certified on Nov. 24.

“You have time to count votes and we’re counting votes,” Dana said of the mail-in election. “So I’m just patient.”

Many other candidates in close races held their slim advantages.

  • Incumbent Jeffrey Thorp maintained a hairline lead over challenger Ken Renfro in the race for a spot on the Mukilteo School Board.

    Thorp was up with 50 percent of the vote, or 5,827 votes, to Renfro’s 49.1 percent, or 5,730 votes.

  • Two positions for the Everett School Board were tight.

    Jeff Russell maintained his lead over Pam LeSesne for Position 3. Russell was holding 51.1 percent of the vote, or 10,256 votes, to LeSesne’s 48.4 percent, or 9,705 votes.

    Jessica Olson also held her lead over Karen Madsen for Position 4. Olson was taking 53.6 percent of the vote, or 10,665 votes, to Madsen’s 45.9 percent, or 9,138 votes.

  • Voters continued to approve the Sno-Isle Library District ballot measure. It was winning 52.5 percent of the vote, or 75,820 votes, with 47.5 percent voting against it — 68,494 votes.

    Two City Council races in Bothell were too close to call.

    Patrick Ewing was leading Jennifer Armenta in the race for Position 5. Ewing held 50.2 percent of the vote, or 1,515 votes, to Armenta’s 49.5 percent, or 1,494 votes.

    Tom Agnew was winning the race for Position 7 with 51.2 percent of the vote, or 1,523 votes, to Sandy Guinn’s 48.4 percent, or 1,439 votes.

  • Finally, in a race that proves a single vote can matter, Peter Gott saw his lead grow in the race for Index Town Council. The race had been deadlocked for two days, with Gott and Alex Gibb both taking 17 votes.

    As of Friday, Gott held 35 votes, or 55.6 percent, to Gibb’s 44.4 percent, or 28 votes.
