MILL CREEK — Jars filled with pennies are showing Mill Creek staff the community wants a larger sports park and to have a place carved out for a community or senior center.
The city’s parks and recreation board and staff hosted an open house earlier this month to answer questions and get feedback from the community about parks, trails and open-space needs.
Staff said about 50 people attended. They were asked to place pennies in a jar that corresponded with issues that they believe should be ranked high priority.
Tom Rogers, Mill Creek planning manager, said the community ranked expanding the Mill Creek Sports Park at 13903 North Creek Drive and providing a senior or community center as the city’s two highest parks and recreation needs. Maintaining the city’s 11 existing parks and trails followed closely behind.
The community is also encouraged to participate in a survey at www.cityofmillcreek.com. The survey will be available until the end of the year, and results will be presented to the City Council. The survey asks about park and trail use and willingness to contribute toward maintaining the property.
Rogers said city officials ironed out a parks plan that is included in the city’s comprehensive plan. Staff members are gathering feedback before updating the information to present to the council in the spring.
