Groups win tourism grants: Island County has received a 2010 distribution of hotel-motel tax funds totalling $110,000.
The Camano Island Chamber of Commerce is set to receive more than $18,000 for its visitor information center and tourism marketing programs.
Other recipients of the tourism funds include the Admiralty Head Lighthouse; Island County Historical Society Museum; the chambers of Central Whidbey, Clinton, Freeland, Oak Harbor and Langley; and festivals in Coupeville, a Whidbey Island farm tour and walking tour, Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens and Pacific Northwest Art School.
Photos honor veterans: A display at Darrington’s Town Hall shows photographs of about 80 local military veterans of all wars and conflicts since World War I.
Councilwoman Frankie Nations started the exhibit, which includes deceased and living veterans in uniform and then in a later photo.
People have not stopped submitting photos for the exhibit and the addition of more is encouraged. The exhibit likely will remain up at least until the end of the month, town administrator Lyla Boyd said.
