BOTHELL — A man died this morning after a stolen car he was driving struck a utility pole while a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy gave chase.
A Honda Civic was reported stolen about 1 a.m. from an apartment complex in the 600 block of 128th Street SW in unincorporated Everett, sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
A short time later a deputy spotted the stolen car and followed it into the Walmart parking lot on 164th Street SW, Hover said.
When the deputy tried to stop the car, the driver sped off. The deputy gave pursuit.
The police chase sped southbound on North Road into unincorporated Bothell when the stolen car struck a pole near Bellflower Road, Hover said.
“He was speeding,” she said.
The driver, a man in his 20s, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he died, she said. His identity has not been released. No one else was in the car.
