MARYSVILLE — Construction on Ingraham Boulevard, a new road that will connect 88th Street NE to Highway 9 in Marysville, is scheduled to begin next week.
The $2.9 million roadway will provide a full four-lane extension of 88th Street NE from 67th Avenue NE through the Grace Creek basin east to 74th Drive NE, city public works director Kevin Nielsen said.
Centex Homes recently built a road extension as part of a housing development, connecting the east end of a residential arterial to 84th Street NE, which connects to Highway 9. The city’s project will connect the west end of the arterial to the current terminus of 88th Street NE at 67th Avenue NE.
Also, 84th Street NE will be realigned to form a new intersection with Ingraham Boulevard and 82nd Avenue NE near the entrance to the new Marysville Getchell High School, now under construction.
Ingraham Boulevard and the high school are scheduled to open in September 2010.
“This new multilane road connection will allow a safer route between 67th and Highway 9, as well as the new high school,” Mayor Dennis Kendall said in a statement. “Ultimately, this will also help better move drivers between the freeway and Highway 9, and help alleviate traffic congestion.”
The project is being funded by $2.2 million from a city street fund and a $982,737 grant from the state.
The new road will feature bike lanes, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and a system to channel, treat and retain storm water, Nielsen said. Crews will also realign Grace Creek and install a fish passage culvert, along with wetland restoration and enhancements.
The roadway is named in honor of the USS Ingraham, a guided-missile frigate based at Naval Station Everett. The city of Marysville adopted the ship in 1999 through the U.S. Navy’s adopt-a-ship program.
The work is being done by SRV Construction of Oak Harbor.
A ground-breaking ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Jan. 22 at 88th Street NE and 67th Avenue NE.
