SEATTLE — An Everett man who was arrested at his Lombard Avenue apartment last week was charged with first-degree murder Tuesday in Seattle in connection with a killing from 1972.
Samuel P. Evans, 71, allegedly killed Jackson Schley and raped his wife, Daisy, on Jan. 9, 1972, in Seattle, according to court papers filed in King County Superior Court.
Daisy Schley died in 2007.
Seattle police used DNA evidence to connect Evans to the crime.
Evans moved to Everett a couple of years ago after being released from prison in Nevada, records show. Detectives do not believe he committed crimes in Snohomish County.
Evans spent 39 of the past 50 years in prison, prosecutors said. His criminal history includes convictions for manslaughter, armed robbery, sexual assault and forgery.
In addition to the Schley killing, Seattle police also are investigating the 1968 stabbing death of James Keuler. Detectives allege Evans’ DNA also links him to that crime.
Prosecutors said the murder charge may be a third-strike for Evans. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
Evan was ordered held behind bars in lieu of $1 million bail.
