Lake Stevens girls move on to state quarterfinals

TACOMA — Brooke Pahukoa scored 12 points and Abby Moistre grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Lake Stevens to a 52-47 win over Rogers of Puyallup Wednesday in a first-round game at the Class 4A girls basketball tournament.
The Vikings (19-5) outscored Rogers 17-6 at the free-throw line and made 14 of 19 attempts in the second half. Lake Stevens also got 11 points from leading scorer Stephanie Schumacher, who was just 4 of 14 from the field. Moistre chipped in eight points for the winners.
The Rams (18-10) turned the ball over 28 times in the loss. They were led by the 19 points of senior Sherelle Williams, who was 9 of 16 from the field. Nicole Jones added 15 points, two blocks and two steals. Sophomore Jordan Asher, who led the Rams with 31 3-pointers in the year, was just 1 of 12 from the field, 1 of 8 from 3-point range.
The Vikings will play again in the state quarterfinals Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
The Lake Stevens boys team plays its first-round game tonight at 7 p.m.
