Monroe park vandalized again

MONROE — Graffiti caused about $5,000 damage to the city’s new Miracle League Field at Skykomish River Park.

The vandalism was reported to police just before 8 a.m. Thursday, Monroe police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said.

It’s the third time in recent months that graffiti has marred the new playing field, she said.

“These acts, which may be intended to be pranks, are anything but that,” Willis said. “Senseless damage such as this translates to significant costs to the city, and ultimately Monroe citizens.”

It will costs thousands of dollars to repair the damage and investigate the vandalism, she said.

The field was opened in September for the Miracle League, a local baseball league for children with developmental and physical disabilities.

The Monroe Rotary Club led the multiyear effort to build the $1.2 million field.

Now, the Rotarians are offering a $500 reward for information that helps police make an arrest and leads to conviction of whoever is responsible for the vandalism.
