Sen. Steve Hobbs testifies against former brother-in-law

EVERETT — State Sen. Steve Hobbs testified Tuesday during the first day of trial against the Lake Stevens lawmaker’s former brother-in-law.

Moses McBride, 37, is accused of making threatening phone calls to Hobbs, D-Lake Stevens, and McBride’s ex-wife, Hobbs’ sister. McBride is charged with multiple crimes, including intimidating a public servant and felony telephone harassment.

Prosecutors allege that McBride sent harassing postcards and left threatening phone messages. He also is accused of demanding that Hobbs help him get his passport so he could leave Vietnam. Hobbs told investigators that Moses couldn’t get his passport renewed because he owed back child support.

McBride was arrested in November at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after arriving from Vietnam.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Hobbs told a jury Tuesday that he was scared that McBride was going to carry through with his threats and harm his family.
